Welcome...
Gables Farm Dogs and Cats Home (registered charity number 1127194) has been helping the region's four legged friends since 1907. We look after some 2000 cats and dogs every year. We either re-home or re-unite them with their owners and provide constant veterinary care and attention to all of them during their stay with us. We enforce a strict non-euthanasia policy, which means no healthy animal in our care is put to sleep. We receive no Government funding so totally rely on the generosity and support of the public through donations and legacies. Gables Farm is also a Founder member of the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes.
You got the love they need to see them through
We have noticed a dramatic increase in the number of Staffordshire Bull Terriers and Staffordshire Bull Terrier crosses coming into our care over the last 12 months.
Marketing and Fundraising Officer Katie Barkell says: “These dogs are very affectionate to people and make great companions, this has made them very popular pets. However this popularity has also had an adverse effect on the breed, they are over bred and are showing up in rescue centres in increasing numbers. We currently have fourteen Staffies and Staffie crosses in our care.”
We would like to appeal to experienced Staffie owners to consider rehoming one of our dogs. To find out more about the dogs available please call 01752 331602 or visit the dogalogue.

Purrfect Cat Holidays at Gables Farm
Gables Farm Dogs’ and Cats’ Home has decided to start offering a cat boarding service in order to raise money for our many residents. The charity, which was established in 1907, has been hit hard by the economic downturn.
With state of the art facilities, experienced professionals and dedicated staff ready to lavish their love and attention upon each four legged individual, Gables Farm Dogs’ and Cats’ Home will be the city’s newest cat holiday retreat. The cat boarding service will start on Monday 25th January 2010, and bookings are being taken now. Eight cat pods in a separate area of the site have been reserved for the new boarding venture. The cat pods all have an inside and an outside area for the cat to explore. All of the pods also have a heat pad to keep the cats cosy.
Prices start at £6.34 per day per cat with ex gables farm cats benefiting from a 10% discount. Current vaccination certificates are required. With 24 hour supervision and veterinary cover, the Home can cater for a range of temperaments, behavioural problems, diets, allergies and special needs.
In order to overcome the huge strain put on our limited resources we have decided to take some positive action. Marketing and Fundraising Officer Katie Barkell says: “We have noticed a dramatic reduction in the amount of donations coming into the Home. In order to raise some much needed funds we have decided to launch a cat boarding service. We are looking forward to some of our ex residents coming back for their holidays.”

Appeals
Due to the weather conditions our site has become very icy. We would like to appeal to people for grit bins. Does anyone know of any redundant ones that could be put to go use for our doggies? Our dogs would really appreciate being able to go for a walk without sliding around.
We are also in desperate need of post it notes, black biros/pens, sellotape and bin bags. Every little helps!
A big thank you to everyone
We would like to thank everybody who has supported us throughout 2009. Without the support of the public, our volunteers and staff we would not be able to help the hundreds of animals that come into us each year. We hope you will continue to support us in 2010 and we look forward to meeting you at our events.
Gables Farm is now offering a dog boarding service.
If you feel you could give a dog or cat a loving home, donate to our charity, become a volunteer, sponsor a dog or sponsor a cat why not call in and visit us?
You will find information on this site on how to help us, our pet memorial garden, our Supporters Club as well information about the Gables Farm Animal Care Card.
