    Maple Bear Vet Bill Appeal

Gables Farm Dogs’ and Cats’ Home is appealing for help with their rising vet bills.

Gables Farm has a non-euthanasia policy and never gives up hope of finding a new home for a dog or cat. We will do whatever we can to help find a home for an animal; this includes behavioural and veterinary care.

All of the animals have a full health check when they arrive at the Home. They are also neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and treated for fleas and worms before going to their new home. A lot of animals that arrive into our care require more than just the basic MOT, they may need a dental or even a life saving operation before they can be rehomed. No matter what the cost we will do their utmost to save these animals and find them new loving homes.

The Home’s vet bill is now £80,000 a year and this has put a huge strain on ouir already limited funds. Gables Farm would like to appeal to people to make a donation to our ‘Maple Bear Vet Bill Appeal.’

Gables Farm has based their appeal around one particular dog, Maple Bear, whose story sparked this appeal. Maple Bear is an 8-year-old Newfoundland. She came to the Home with her friend Polo a 7-year-old male Pyrenean Mountain dog.

They arrived at the Home in terrible condition. Their coats were matted and crawling with maggots. No sooner had their paws entered the building than the groomer set to work in clipping off their filthy coats. Most shocking of all was the large tumour protruding from Maple Bear’s mouth. After much consideration from the vet, Gabriel, Grills and Associates, and the Home, it was decided to operate on Maple Bear’s jaw to remove the tumour. She is now recovering well after having this life saving operation. Although Maple Bear is elderly for the breed we never gave up hope. Gables Farm believes that every dog, no matter what his or her age, is worth fighting for.

Marketing and Fundraising Officer Katie Barkell says: “The operation to save Maple Bear’s life has cost us hundreds of pounds and this has put a strain on our already struggling finances. However, we never give up on an animal and we are now pleased to report that they have gone to a fantastic home together.”

If you can help by making a contribution towards the ‘Maple Bear Vet Bill Appeal’ please call 01752 331602 or donate online.
