FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Question 1

I am interested in adopting a dog or cat. How do I go about doing this?

Answer 1

You are welcome to come to our reception, or call us to have a chat with our rehoming team about what you are looking for. You can also complete an adoption application form. We will arrange appointments for people to meet animals if they are a potential match for an animal. Please click here for further information.

Question 2

I live outside of Somerset, Devon, Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly – am I able to adopt an animal from Gables?

Answer 2

Unfortunately not, we are only able to rehome to these areas as we need to be able to carry out home visits and provide follow up care if needed.

Question 3

I have applied to adopt a dog or cat and completed an application form via your website but haven’t heard anything?

Answer 3

Applications are automatically emailed to us via the website, so we will have received your application. We receive over 50 applications daily and only have enough staff and volunteers to make contact with people who are a match for an animal we have available for adoption. Your application will be kept on file for 3 months, so we can contact you if an animal comes in that is a match with what you are looking for and will suit your family and lifestyle. If you see another animal on the website that you want to be considered for after completing your application, you don’t need to complete another one, just email us the animals name, your full name and address and the date you completed your form so we can update your application.

Question 4

I have young children, or young visiting children and all of your dogs available say they have to go to a new home with older children. Do you ever have any dogs that are suitable with young children?

Answer 4

All of the dogs we have available for adoption are put onto our website, except puppies. Most of our dogs are assessed to be rehomed with older children due to their behaviour displayed in their previous home and current behaviour displayed at Gables. We do not take any risks with dogs and children, so are very careful and cautious to protect children as our first priority. We do take in dogs and puppies that are suitable to live with young children, but these dogs are very popular. Therefore we ask you to complete a dog adoption application form, so we can keep your details on file for any suitable dogs that come in.

Question 5

I have some bedding, blankets, duvets etc. to donate – can I bring these to you?

Answer 5

Yes please, you can drop these off to us anytime between 9am and 3.30pm daily. We are unable to use any newspaper, shredded paper, carpet, bean bags, pillows or feather filled duvets.  

Question 6

I have some dog or cat food, toys, washing powder or other items (not bedding) I would like to donate. Can I bring them to you?

Answer 6

Yes please, we are here to accept donations between 9am and 3.30pm daily, except Easter Sunday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day when we are closed. We would be very grateful if you could leave your donated items at our main reception entrance in the trolley, or on the floor, and ring the doorbell to let us know your donated items are there for us. We are so grateful for your donations and sorry we cannot let you in to the building to thank you properly, due to the pandemic.

You are also welcome to put any animal food donations (not bedding) in one of our store collection bins we have around Plymouth, if that is easier for you.

Gables is committed to the highest standards of customer care as well as animal welfare. Your comments are vital to us so we can ensure these standards are continually met and ensure that staff and volunteers get the recognition they deserve when they have gone above and beyond for our customers.

In order for us to pass on positive feedback or investigate any complaints thoroughly, we ask that you submit your comments in writing to Mrs Claire Sparkes, General Manager in one of the following ways:

Making a complaint

We realise that making a complaint is not always easy so we would like to assure you that we will take your complaint seriously and handle it in a professional and timely manner.

Timescale

We will acknowledge your comments and ensure that the appropriate manager or department has been made aware of them within seven working days.

Your complaint will be fully investigated and a response sent as quickly as possible but in no more than 28 days.

The reply will usually be a full explanation but in some cases we may inform you that more time in needed to investigate.

Refund Policy

In the event that a credit card donation is made to Gables via our website as a result of fraud or misuse, or in the event of accidental duplicate transactions, please contact us as soon as possible and we will investigate and arrange a refund as necessary.
