Are you ready?
Get set…..GO!
Ahh too slow to keep up with me aren’t you!
I’m Gollum and I am a very busy, bouncy and high energy chap. I arrived at Gables as a puppy with my 2 brothers, mum and dad. We weren’t being well looked after in the past which is why we came here but it was quite a while before we were allowed to be put up for adoption. I was lucky enough to be placed in a foster home with a member of staff for the first few months which gave me a great start and some vital socialisation.
I’m always on the go and I need plenty of things to do to keep me occupied. I am very engaging when food is involved and I am really looking forward to spending lots of time with my new owner learning loads of fun new things. The humans here think I would be really good at scent work in the future. I’ve not really learnt how to use my nose very much and I don’t take time to sniff on walks so learning this skill will be really good for me.
When I’m in the mood I can be really quite affectionate, usually when I am in a calm and relaxing environment. I adore playing with toys, especially if they are soft squeaky ones. I like being groomed but I can be a bit of a fidget for it, there are just so many other things to be doing.
I like meeting other dogs and when I can say hello quickly I’m super friendly. I generally greet quite calmly to start with but I quickly get over excited and sometimes I can upset other dogs with my confidence. Sometimes I can get so into play that I become mouthy and I jump up. I’ve got told off a few times by other dogs because they didn’t like it. When this happens I back away as it reminds me that not all dogs like a bouncy play friend. Due to my very exuberant nature I can sometimes get frustrated when I’m on a walk and a passing dog doesn’t want to stop and say hello. This causes me to get wound up and I start barking and snapping, not because I am unfriendly but because I REALLY wanted to say hi. I will need to wear a muzzle when in public places for at least 6 months, just to give my new owners chance to get to know me and how I interact with other dogs. I need to stay on lead at all times in public.
I don’t mind living with a few people but I would find it difficult to settle and relax if there is lots of visitors coming and going. I am suited to living in either a built up or rural location and I would be happy going for walks in the local dog walking area.
I am looking for owners who have had terriers, or other highly strung breeds before.
