Hello you. I’m so pleased that you have come here to find out more about me. Let’s start at the beginning shall we. Why am I here, I hear you ask? Sadly, I was found living outside with no access to food, water or shelter. There were nearly 200 of us, all different ages and at the time I was found I was around 2 months old. Thankfully this awful past hasn’t affected my outlook on life and I am a positive and confident young man who is ready to make my mark on the world.

I’m a super happy chap and I have lots of love to give. The people who care for me here often come and hang out with me in my kennel which I love. I like to sit on their laps and I lean in while they scratch my neck, sometimes I even drop off to sleep. Down time with my friends is always nice but I’m mostly a very active and exuberant chap. I’m what you humans might call the outdoorsy type. I love getting out and about for walks and I adore being able to explore the woods and paths around Saltram every day. I’m very sociable and I have loads of amazing dog friends here at Gables. We often go for walks in groups which is great for us all. I love playing off lead with dogs who I am confident with and when I’m enjoying myself I love to play chase and rough and tumble. It’s not often I meet a dog that is too rough for me but it has happened and I will let them know if I’m not enjoying myself. I’d love to find a home with another dog, although this isn’t essential.

At this point I guess you are wondering why I’ve been looking for my new home for so long, so I had better explain some things. When I arrived I was very young and I needed to be assessed, neutered and be ready for adoption which took some time, especially as there were more than 20 of us here at Gables from the same property. I did, however, get adopted when I was 5 months old but sadly that didn’t work out and I had to come back after only a week. I was a bit too overzealous with the child in the home unfortunately.

Once I entered into adolescence I started to become grabby when I got over excited or over whelmed. I don’t grab to be unfriendly but because I don’t know what to do with myself in these situations. It usually happens when I am off lead in open areas like the paddocks and when I’m coming out of my kennel and all the dogs are barking at me. It’s likely that I will do this sometimes in a home too, especially at first while I am adjusting to my new environment. The amazing staff here have been helping me to learn how to channel my behaviour and I am enjoying ‘free work’ in the paddocks which helps to keep me calm when I’m off the lead. At the moment I wear a muzzle when I’m going for walks on lead which my new owners will need to continue with, at least for the first 6 months or so anyway. Once I am settled into a new routine and I’m getting plenty of mental stimulation as well as physical exercise I should slowly stop performing the grabbing behaviour.

In my new home I would love to live a really active lifestyle where I can be part of what is going on most of the time. I’d suit someone who works from home or someone who has a solitary active job that I can join you doing. I really enjoy watching the world from my kennel, I have the perfect spot where I can see most of what’s going on. In my new home I think I’d like the opportunity to watch the world go by through a window. I’d be more than happy living somewhere busy where I can people watch.

I do aspire to be a very good boy I just need a little bit of help along the way. Together we can achieve this by going to some kind of structured training class like agility or scent work. This kind of class will help me learn to focus and what fun we’ll have while we are there.

It’s really important that my new owners have dealt with grabby behaviours in the past as this could be very over whelming to someone who isn’t experienced with it. You’ll need to be willing and able to dedicate plenty of time to my ongoing training, mental stimulation and physical exercise as I will need daily mental stimulation including enrichment feeding and training sessions to keep me out of trouble.

I have had very little experience of being in a home environment so I’m looking for new pawrents that can help me adjust. A good routine will really help me with this. Once I have got used to my new environment I’m hoping that I will be happy being left for up to 5 hours but this will need to be done gradually to make sure I’m happy being on my own.

If you are super active, have plenty of time to dedicate to my training and have the right experience then why don’t you pop in an application form. You never know, we may be seeing each other very soon.
